The award was delivered during The Law Firm Network’s Annual Conference which took place in the city of Budapest in the month of October
Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021, The Hungarian Helsinki Committee is a human rights organization supporting the general public in Hungary but in particular minorities who experience discrimination. The audience includes Roma, foreigners, refugees, people with disabilities, detainees and in general victims of different kinds of discrimination.
The Committee’s work spans across a wide range of activities including research on law enforcement activities, education programs, advocacy and free legal assistance and representation of victims of discrimination who don’t have or cannot afford an attorney.
Issues that the committee currently investigates and key topics include unpunished police violence, effects of the State of Emergency legislation during the COVID-19 pandemic, rights and protection of the refugees from Ukraine and the national elections in Hungary, 2022.
HHC has won several prestigious awards in the past, among others the European Economic and Social Committee’s EU Civil Solidarity Prize in 2021.
Co-Chairs of the organisation, Dr. Andras Kadar and Dr. Márta Pardavi, who attended the Annual Conference to collect the award, expressed their gratitude with the network.
