Law Firms
Forbes Hare is an independent law firm practising British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Anguilla, St Kitts, Nevis, and Grenada Law. Our core practice areas are litigation, insolvency, corporate, finance, investments funds and private client and trust law.
We have an experienced litigation team which is able to assist in contentious matters of practically any nature. The majority of work we undertake involves, in one way or another, disputes involving offshore structures and entities in the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands. Much of our work has cross-border elements. While our primary markets are the BVI and Cayman Islands, we are also able to assist in cases involving other common law Caribbean jurisdictions where we have lawyers locally admitted and/or relationships with local firms.
We have a broad-based corporate insolvency practice, and act for creditors, debtors and office holders in a variety of insolvency and restructuring situations. We have considerable familiarity with the use of insolvency remedies in fraud and asset tracing exercises, and in shareholder disputes.
William is a founding partner of the firm and heads the firm’s litigation and insolvency group. He is a generalist who undertakes a broad range of legal work including litigation and insolvency, general corporate work, distressed (or insolvent) investment funds and regulatory advice.
William has substantial experience of international commercial litigation, contentious insolvency, shareholder disputes, fraud and asset tracing, and trust litigation. He has appeared or acted in many of the leading cases in the BVI in recent years, and has 20 years’ experience of a variety of market sectors. Non-contentious experience includes complex corporate work (transactional, restructuring and general advisory), regulatory work and risk management. He serves, or has served, as external counsel/liaison partner for a number of the firm’s clients.
Bar Admissions
Admitted to the Bar of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis).

He is bilingual in English and Spanish and also has a good working knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese. José heads the firm’s Latin American practice.
On the corporate side, José specialises in all aspects of corporate and commercial transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, debt and equity financings, public financing (including listings on all the major markets), structured finance and offshore investment funds.
